Sandy Draper won the U.S. 4.0 championships at Fairmount Athletic
Club April 16 to 18, taking four matches while dropping only one
game. Sandy defeated Boston's Omair Sarwar, 13,6,7 for the title.
Fraser Gough in the 3.5s fought his way into the semis, losing in 5
to finalist Mustafa Al Homsi. Al Homsi also dispatched Atlanta's Joe
Cullen in 4. Joe went on to the consi semifinals, losing to
Nathaniel Williamson in 5 games. Fraser took the third slot, beating
Paul Parker (8),7,14,(6),7.
In the 5.0s, Chapel Hill's excellent junior Adrian Ostbye lost in 4
in the semis to eventual winner Michael East but defeated John
Ehlinger in straight games to finish third overall. Pineville N.C.
squasher Geoff Roper lost in 5 to eventual finalist Patrick Harris.
Roper played his way into the consi finals, losing to Eric Hernady
in three.
In the 5.5s, Justin Mather lost to Philip Carbajal in 5, then went
on in the consi's to finish seventh overall, defeating Anthony Zou
5,10,(7),9.
In the 6.0s, Joe Millman lost to eventual finalist Jacque Swanepoel
but played his way into the consolation semis, losing to Jason
Jewell in four.
